Film Agency for Wales adds value with expanded team

The Film Agency for Wales has announced the appointment of two new team members, with BBC Wales Producer Kate Crowther joining the Cardiff-based organization as Production Executive and former Assembly Researcher, Eve White, joining as Exhibition and Education Executive.

Having produced two series of the BAFTA Cymru nominated drama 'Belonging', Crowther has extensive production experience. She began her career as a trainee Producer with Screen Gems, the shorts film scheme, and has since produced short films for network television and developed a slate of theatrical features. Her short, , 'Dawn' by writer Anthony Hurley and director Shreepali Patel won the . DM Davies, Best Short Film 2005 and Best Short Film BAFTA Cymru 2006.

Crowther will work on the Film Agency for Wales' diverse slate of more than 30 features, alongside Head of Talent, Keith Potter (formerly of Dan Films) and Talent Development Executive, Adam Partridge. Crowther's appointment signals the Film Agency's commitment to seeing projects that have received development funding through to production. The team, headed up by Chief Executive Pauline Burt, will actively work with filmmakers to target and negotiate with would-be finance, sales and distribution partners.

Also joining the Film Agency as Exhibition and Education Executive is Eve White. White joins from the National Assembly for Wales where she was researcher for a regional Assembly Member for North Wales and Culture, Welsh Language and Sport.

White will work to Dan Thomas, Head of Exhibition and Education, and will have responsibility for the co-ordination and development of education and exhibition projects including Soundtrack; the first international film and music festival for Wales to be hosted in Cardiff this coming November.

Commenting on the appointments, Pauline Burt, Chief Executive of the Film Agency for Wales, said: "Kate and Eve will be great assets to the Film Agency team, being both knowledgeable and approachable."

"The new roles reflect the Film Agency's determination to support talent, add value and meet needs. We have a real commitment to working with filmmakers to help bring their projects to the screen; and to work directly with exhibitors and festival organisers - as opposed to simply awarding funding and stepping back. There's also a real opportunity to change the landscape for film education, responding to broader strategic needs. We want to increase the number of film education practitioners, providing better training and resources and ensuring access for all young people across Wales."

The Film Agency for Wales is funded by the Arts Council of Wales, the UK Film Council and the Welsh Assembly Government, via Creative Business Wales, which was set up to support, encourage and increase the range and number of films being produced in Wales and to foster the abundance of creative talent in Wales.

Notes to Editors:

Film Agency for Wales

Established in July 2006, the Film Agency for Wales is the sole Agency for film in Wales, with a remit to ensure that the economic, cultural and educational aspects of film are effectively represented in Wales, the UK and the world. As a strategic agency, the Film Agency aims to facilitate the emergence of a viable and sustainable Welsh film industry and to promote a vibrant and dynamic film culture.

The Film Agency for Wales is funded by the Arts Council of Wales, the UK Film Council and the Welsh Assembly Government, via Creative Business Wales, the latter of which was set up to support, encourage and increase the range and number of films being produced in Wales and to foster the abundance of creative talent in Wales.

The Agency's priority is to identify and nurture Welsh filmmaking talent – particularly writers, directors, writer-directors and producers – by supporting and encouraging the development of their work, accomplishments and ambitions. We support a broad policy on film education to complement our central priority of creating and maintaining a dynamic film culture across Wales. We aim to enhance film literacy for all and stimulate an appetite for specialised, cultural and non-mainstream films.
